Favorite Things in the Fall Garden—Compost Tumblers

When we think about fall, we think of pumpkin pies, spiced apples and fire cider. For gardener’s the best part of fall is the abundance of leaves and the idea of making compost from the greens of cleaning out the summer garden and the addition of browns from the autumn leaves. The fall is the perfect time to build garden gold (compost) because all the materials are readily available and my favorite way to produce garden gold is with a compost tumbler.

Compost tumblers solve many of the problems of compost piles/bins and encourage faster decomposition. Here is a list of the advantages of compost tumblers compared to traditional debris piles.

• Faster composting: Sealed drums with aeration and frequent tumbling encourages the movement of moisture, heat and air which can speed up decomposition.
